Dr. Jessica Beckstrom is a New England native who grew up in central Massachusetts and completed her undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Wheaton College in Norton, MA. Between college and vet school, she worked as a professional bird trainer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for Natural Encounters, LLC and went on to head the department of avian training and enrichment at the Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, MA until starting vet school in 2015. She is a 2019 graduate of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and completed a small animal rotating internship in Tucson, Arizona at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Tucson where she continued to work as an emergency doctor until 2021. She then spent three years working in general practice at Sunrise Pet Clinic in Tucson. Although she has worn many hats in veterinary medicine, her passion for animal behavior and training has brought her back to her roots to pursue a residency in veterinary behavior at the Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine (with locations in North Haven, CT and Guilford, CT). 

While she enjoys working with animals of all species, she has a special interest in the behavior and training of birds and horses. 

When she is not at work, you can find her exploring new hiking trails with her Great Pyrenees, Douglas, and working with her two horses, Marty and Cabbie.
